Snobcon is an event which specialises in sneakers, streetwear and music. You are able to buy, sell or trade items, missed out on the Off-White drops? You’re bound to find them here, jusssst at a much higher price point but hey, needs must if you’re a sneaker head or just obsessed with the latest streetwear trends.
I was fortunate enough to be invited down by Maria Kiniaris (Maria’s instagram) and I am so glad I went along, having not done anything like this before, I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect, but I was excited to say the least.
The event was held at School 21 in Stratford starting at 12pm and finishing at 6pm. With an 18+ after party at The Macbeth Hoxton in Shoreditch. Unfortunately due to living outside of London, I wasn’t able to attend the after party with it finishing at 3am and there being no trains home.
Inside the sports hall, workshops were going on with talks on topics such as, making your own sneakers and how to actually start a streetwear brand. There were obviously many vendors selling art, sneakers and clothing from both brands (i.e Bape, Supreme) or their own designs. A basketball free-throw competition was held and a DJ was present, playing all the best hits throughout the event. For food you could walk 1 minute to Pitch Stratford, show your wristband for free entry and then indulge on food and drink.
When going to these events, you need to know your shit. Know how much things are retailed for, how hard to come by they are etc. You don’t want someone to rip you off but you also don’t want to seem foolish when you suggest a price which is far lower than retail. But in the end, I didn’t need to worry about all of this as nobody really had my size for trainers, which I guess works out well for my bank account.
Considering this, I still wanted to walk away from the event with atleast one item, after circling all of the tables a couple of times, I decided to purchase some artwork from one of the vendors, I was really drawn to his work – illustrations of different streetwear outfits and they are amazing!
